What is Virtual Web Hosting?
Virtual web hosting means that your web site is placed on a web server that contains other customers' web sites. Each web site has its own unique and secure web space as well as its own unique Internet address and email accounts.
The unique address is called a domain name (e.g.. WWW.YOURNAME.COM), and we can help you obtain a domain name for your site. Each web site on the same server is completely separate from the other web sites and acts just like it was the only web site on the server. Your customers will find your web site by typing in your unique domain name (e.g.. WWW.YOURNAME.COM).

Do your servers support SQL database?
Yes! Our servers support MySQL which is a full strength SQL server built for our Linux web servers. We provide FREE access to this database system when you purchase web hosting plan 1 or higher.
NOTE: this feature requires that we setup your web site on a specific type of web server that provides this capability. Therefore, be sure to select this option when you place your initial order. If not, then we will need to move your web site to a different type of web server and a $50 administrative fee will apply.

How Many MySQL Databases Can I Have?
Each hosting plan that provides MySQL access is limited with respect to the number of "databases" allowed. Please see our hosting plan comparison table for the actual number allowed for each hosting plan.
NOTE: each "database" can contain as many "tables" (files) inside of it as will fit into your allotted web site space. If you require additional databases, you need to upgrade to a higher hosting plan that allows for the number of databases you need. Since a single database can contain many files (tables), most customers only need a single database for their entire web site.

Do your servers support PHP scripting?
Yes! Our servers support PHP 4 which is a wonderful Linux server based scripting language. We provide FREE access to this scripting system when you purchase web hosting plan 1 or higher.
NOTE: this feature requires that we setup your web site on a specific type of web server that provides this capability. Therefore, be sure to select this option when you place your initial order. If not, then we will need to move your web site to a different type of web server and a $50 administrative fee will apply.

Do your servers support ASP scripting?
Yes! Our servers support Chilisoft ASP which is a powerful Linux server based scripting language that is compatible with Microsoft's ASP for the Windows platform.

Do your servers support e-commerce?
Yes! Our servers support the In The Q C-Commerce System which is a powerful LINUX server based storefront solution that we developed. We provide FREE access to this system when you purchase web hosting plan 2 or higher.
We also offer our ShoppingQ E-Commerce System which is an even more powerful LINUX storefront solution (that we developed) that is available with our e-commerce hosting plans for a small monthly fee. ShoppingQ has many additional features not found in the In The Q E-Commerce System, and is normally used by web sites that want an online store with "all the bells an whistles".
NOTE: these e-commerce packages require that we setup your web site on a specific type of web server that provides this capability. Therefore, be sure to select this option when you place your initial order. If not, then we will need to move your web site to a different type of web server and a $50 administrative fee will apply.

Is there a fee to add ASP, PHP, SQL, or E-Commerce to my account?
If you select these features when you place your initial web site order, then you will NOT be charged a setup fee to have them included as part of your web site. NOTE: these features do require that we setup your web site on a specific type of web server that provides these capabilities. If you do NOT select them when you place your original web site order, then we will need to move your web site to a different type of web server and a $50 administrative fee will apply.

Do you offer SSL credit card encryption?
Yes. The SSL Credit Card Encryption included with our hosting plans is a shared certificate (in our name). It can be used with our free e-commerce system or for simple web form encryption. If you wish to have your own SSL certificate (in your name), or use SSL for your own ASP, SQL, or PHP activities, then you will need to purchase it directly from Verisign. We will assist you in getting it installed onto your web site.

Do you offer web page design services?
Unlike most other hosting companies, we do offer in-house professional web site design. We hire only the most talented graphic artists who have years of real world web design experience, and our design work is backed by a written money-back guarantee. Qhost.com offers a full line of services for your business including hosting, design, and promotion.

How do I upgrade or downgrade from one plan to another?
You can change plan types at anytime by contacting our Customer Service Department. A one-time $50 fee applies to both upgrades and downgrades on all of our hosting plans.

Is 2000 MB of data transfer going to be enough for my site?
Our experience has shown that 2000 MB a month will be more than enough bandwidth for the average web site. Depending on the quantity and sizes of your files, this will support many thousands of hits per week. Note that less than 2% of our customers have exceeded the 2000 MB of monthly data transfer.

What if my site exceeds the allowed monthly transfer amount?
Data transfer in excess of plan threshold will be billed at $0.10 per MB of excess per mo. If your site exceeds the monthly allowed transfer amount, we will contact you and ask whether you wish to be billed for the excess usage or if you prefer to upgrade to a higher plan.

How do I transfer files to my web site?
Files can be transfered to the web server through FrontPage if you have opted to use Front page, otherwise they must be transferred to the web server via FTP (File Transport Protocol). To accomplish this, you will need to use one of the many FTP programs available today (like CuteFTP or WS_FTP). The FTP program is used along with your dial-up Internet connection to upload web pages and images from your hard drive to your web space on our servers. FTP is very simple to learn and use and we have provided an FTP tutorial for first time users.

Why can't I see my files after I upload them to my web site?
This is the question we get asked the most. The reason you don't see your pages is because you uploaded them to the wrong location on your web site, or you did not name your home page "index.html" or "index.htm".
Each web site has a "main web directory" (for the entire web site) as well as a "user web directory" for each user account you setup in the account control panel. The main web directory is the one that displays pages when you just enter your web site address like:
http://www.yourname.com
User web directories are "underneath" the main web directory and allow users on your site to have their own separate home page. These home pages would be displayed by entering the user's web site address like:
http://www.yourname.com/~bobsmith:
If you don't see your files after you successfully upload them, then chances are you uploaded the files into your user "web" directory instead of the main "web directory. This is a very common mistake.
When you first log onto your web site using FTP, you will normally be taken to your user web directory and not the main directory. This is NOT the correct location to upload files for your web site.
If, and only if, your user account is setup as a "site administrator" (not just a regular user), then you will be allowed to change directories "up" until you reach the home (root) directory of your web site. At that point, you will see three directories: LOG, USERS, and WEB. Double click on the WEB directory and then upload your files inside of it. Once the upload is complete, use your web browser and type in your web site address. Your pages should now appear.
NOTE: If your user account is NOT assigned as a "site administrator", you will NOT be allowed to change directories up to the home directory of the web site. This means, you will only be allowed to upload files to your user web directory - not to the main web directory.
IMPORTANT: once the files are correctly uploaded into the main web directory, the server will display the home page when someone enters your web site address. But what page does it show first? The server will look for the "index.html" and display it if it exists. If not, then it looks for "index.htm" and displays that page. If you have both an "index.html" and "index.htm" page in the main web directory, the server will show the "index.html" file. You will need to delete the "index.html" page if you want the web server to display your "index.htm" file.

Why do I see broken image links on my pages?
This means the web server cannot find the image files your web pages are referring to. This happens when you forget to upload your image files, upload them to the wrong location on your web site, or have incorrect UPPER/lower case letters in the image file names. LINUX servers are case sensitive which means you need to be careful with UPPER and lower case file names. LINUX considers "title.GIF" and "title.gif" as two separate files. Therefore, be sure all web page and image file names are entered in ALL lower case letters. That way, you can be sure the server can find the images for your web pages.

Why can I retrieve email OK but I cannot send email through my web site?
In order to combat and help eliminate bulk email (called "spam"), most dial-up access providers (ISP's) block port 25 which is used to send email.
What this means is that your ISP will NOT allow you to send email from your computer using your web site's email server. They will let you retrieve email from your web site email accounts, just not send email. They will require that you use their email server which is attached to and a part of your dial-up access account with them. That is why you can retrieve email okay but when you try to send email you see an error message that says "cannot locate mail server". As a result of the port 25 block, you will be required to enter your ISP's email server as the outgoing or SMTP server in your email program's settings (to send mail). However, you will still be able to setup your web site's mail server as the incoming or POP3 email server (to receive mail).

Can I resell space within my own account?
Yes. You can resell space within your account. However, you will be responsible for its content and data transfer. We do not support additional domain names within your web site account - each domain name must purchase its own web site.

Do you accept international orders?
Yes. We are pleased to have customers around the world, and we're always as close as your computer. If desired, we can host non-US domain name extensions. What contract and payment terms are available? We bill in monthly, quarterly, or annual increments and require a minimum of a 1 month contract. Monthly billing is only available when purchased by a credit/debit card. Check payment is only available for quarterly and annual billing. We accept American Express, Master Card, and Visa cards as well as personal and business checks. Your hosting contract automatically renews unless you cancel in writing a minimum of 14 days in advance of your next hosting period.

What is your refund policy?
If within 30 days after purchasing a web site from us, you are not happy with our web site prices or services, just let us know in writing within that 30 days. Written requests must be signed by an officer of the Company or the owner of the domain name, be on Company letterhead, and must be faxed or mailed to us (email and phone requests are not valid). We will then promptly refund your money, less any domain name registration fees. Note: this refund guarantee does not apply to any web site disconnected for violating our acceptable use policy.
